About Te Moata

Location

Te Moata - 'The First Light' - can be found in the Coromandel Peninsula 6km north of Tairua. The centre is nestled on a north facing slope on 840 acres of native regenerating native forest. Wonderful coast of views can be seen from the land which owes its present shape to ancient volcanic activity. Many popular beaches are within easy driving distance of the centre.

Facilities

The facitilies available include a dining room and kitchen which provides wholesome vegetarian meals, simple sleeping accomodation for about 30 people, bathroom/toilet areas, a dedicated meditation room and two large workshop spaces. In addition, there are several retreat huts situated on a high ridge - and for those who enjoy the outdoors, many tracks wind their way through the bush. The Centre does not have mains electricity - the basic solar system being supplemented by the flash of a torch light at night.

Vision

The Guardians envisage Te Moata as being a safe, heart-centred space which is welcoming to all who seek personal healing and growth and who wish to live in harmony with the environment.

Labyrinth

We also have a beautiful labyrinth built in the bush which is available for people to walk. Many have gained deep life insights as they have opened to the wisdom of the labyrinth journey. For more details see the
labyrinth project.

Programme

In honouring the founding tradition of Te Moata, regular silent retreats are offered. To lead these reatreats we are committed to inviting highly respected international and local teachers. Participants come from all spiritual traditions.... We also offer a variety of community events, many of which feature the Dances of Universal Peace as a core component.

For further information, please see our schedule of
retreats and workshops.

Costs

In addition to a low registration fee for each course, Te Moata relies on Dana (donation) to support itself financially. Dana isa traditional buddhist practice - a system of generosity which requires us "to trust and live moment by moment in the fulness of life opening our hearts to both giving and receiving".

Te Moata is a registered Charitable Trust and any donations given can be claimed as a tax rebate from the IRD.
