Te Moata Newsletter Late March 2011

May we all continue sending compassionate thoughts and acts of generosity to those affected by the Christchurch quakes, particularly to the members of our extended Te Moata community who live in Canterbury.

Kiwi listening at Te Moata

Reports of Kiwi being heard at night at Te Moata have increased in recent years.

This Autumn, in late April, we are going to make a more focused effort to monitor calls in order to assess how many Kiwi we have and where they are on the property.

If you would like to be involved in call count monitoring, please contact Annie for more details. Please note that you will need a good degree of fitness and confidence to be out in the bush after dark!

The kiwi listening evenings are Fri April 29th, Sat April 30th and Sun May 1st and Annie would prefer volunteers who can be available for at least 2 of these nights.

Email Annie at: anniechapman@wellness-solutions.co.nz  or phone 027 4272644

Raffle Result

Congratulations to Laura Tomes of Little Shoal Bay in Auckland, the winner of the raffle for the Morris and James Pot.

Thanks to all of you who bought tickets, $975 was raised with all but 5 tickets sold.

The $975 raised was used to help pay for the airfare of one of the Insight Dialogue teachers who offered their retreat earlier in March at Te Moata.

Huge thanks to Barbara Reardon for singlehandedly organizing this raffle!

Thanks also to the Aotearoa Buddhist Education Trust, www.abet.net.nz, for collecting funds to pay teacher’s fares.

New email address for The Te Moata Charitable Trust

If you would like to contact the Charitable Trust with any comments, queries or suggestions, it is now a lot easier with our new email address: temoatatrust@gmail.com

The Trustees are a group of volunteers who meet regularly to oversee the direction of Te Moata, with an overview of finances, the Eco plan, brainstorming for the future, etc.

On a day-to-day level it is the managers, Dave and Jessie, who care-take the property, run the office and lovingly prepare the facilities for retreats. Dave and Jessie can be contacted at info@temoata.org

We need help- calling on Mac users!

Over the past few years we have been paying our web designer Harry at Redzebra Studio to make physical changes to our website. Harry is always very helpful and prompt but as a way to save money we are hoping there may be a Te Moata supporter willing to take on the voluntary role of website updates. We need someone who has a Mac and hopefully software called iWeb, plus the ability and time to use it! If this could be you, please contact Nyanaviro at stephen@originalnature.co.nz

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Linde Rosenberg for all of the work she is doing in providing up to date text for the website. Also, a big thanks to David Bullivant who has agreed to step back into the role of maintaining the Te Moata database, to take the load off Jessie.

We need help – calling for a Support Co-ordinator for Friends of Te Moata

‘Friends of Te Moata’ is the support base making it possible to sustain Te Moata into the future.
We recognize that growing the Friends Group is important so this support base becomes even stronger. As a result, we are seeking a volunteer for this position. As volunteers ourselves, we need an extra person to help out who is passionate about Te Moata, a “people person” with good communication skills and ability to set goals.
The role will be to:
Manage the Friends of Te Moata database
Grow the group through ongoing fundraising
Communicate with the Friends of Te Moata group
Report to the Charitable Trust

If you feel a positive response and are inspired to help Te Moata in this way, please get in touch with Nyanaviro (04 2998899) or e-mail him stephen@originalnature.co.nz to discuss this further.

Lovely New Zafus

We have lovely new zafus, meditation cushions, which have been kindly donated by Sharda and filled by Maggie with her donated fleeces. Huge thanks!

After two long retreats these cushions are indicating that they are in need of a bit more plumping. We need about 40 Kilos more of clean, skirted fleece to fatten them up. If you have a source or a likely contact for fleeces, please follow up on this and contact Jessie at info@temoata.org

Does anyone have a spare chest freezer? Dave and Jessie would be keen to have one donated, it could go down the road in a neighbour’s shed for Te Moata use.
